Moving to Seattle – What’s it Really Like?

12 May Moving to Seattle – What’s it Really Like?

If you are currently considering moving to Seattle, Washington, you are not alone! More and more people are moving to Seattle every single year. This city is ranked fourth in growth in the U.S. census and it’s unlikely that this number will not be changing any time soon, because Seattle has everything you could want in a home and MORE. Locals may have a few things to say about the seemingly never ending rain and traffic, but they don’t plan on leaving any time soon!

If you like coffee, you’re going to LOVE Seattle. It is world famous for it’s coffee supply chain management and coffee roasting. The rainy day climate makes for an always lovely excuse to curl up with your favorite cup of fresh brewed coffee. Starbucks Coffee and Tea actually got it’s start in Seattle in the early 1970’s, and flourished into what it is today. Seattle has always been ahead of the game in the coffee industry compared to the rest of the country, and that doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon.

In the winter time, the mountains are just a short drive away and are popular amongst skiers and snowboarders alike. Throughout the rest of the year, the Olympic and Cascade mountain foothills and ranges are a hikers dream come true! The scenery has a calming and almost fantasy like beauty to it. People come from all over the country to take advantage of this amazing hiking adventure. Seattle’s gorgeous lakes makes boating here a unique experience that some have described as, “life changing”. Yeah., it’s THAT beautiful.

If you’re not familiar with Seattle’s “Space Needle”, you will be. This observation tower is an icon of Seattle and it’s most popular tourist attraction, bringing in approximately 1.3 million visitors every year. The Space Needle has a rotating SkyCity Restaurant and observation deck so you can oversee all of Seattle and get a view of all the mountain ranges we discussed above. The Space Needle is equipped with “The Loupe”, which is the world’s first see through revolving glass floor. This gives you a 360 degree view of the entire city. Try not the fret though, the floor is constructed of 10 layers of tightly bonded glass so as to ensure a safe sight seeing experience.

The scenery and nearby nature perhaps play a part in Seattle’s over all attitude and vibe, which one can only describe as calm, peaceful, and laid back. Locals have a real knack for tolerance and patience for one another. So while traffic may be a bit crowded at times, your fellow driver won’t have any problem with letting you merge in a pay-it-forward kind of way. The multiple coffee shops have an inviting feel to them, so don’t be surprised if you step in for a coffee and leave with a few new friends. This laid back way of life extends to even the night time where having a beer is more of a relaxing activity than it would be a wild night out on the town.

Some other positive things worth noting is that Seattle, Washington is extremely environmentally conscious. Seattleites are very well-read and are fantastic conversationalists. The food scene is near impossible to beat, and has a plethora of delicious seafood. Seattle’s school district is the largest in the state and private schools are always an option. All in all, it’s safe to say that Seattle has everything you could possibly want in a “Home Sweet Home”. Just ask the locals.
